Silver Grain Co. came out of a pretty simple frustration.

I teach photography, and every semester I watch people fall in love with film—the process, the waiting, the way it slows everything down. And every semester, I watch them struggle to find a camera that actually works.

That’s the part that doesn’t make sense.

Most 35mm cameras out there have been sitting for decades, then listed as-is. It feels like a good find—until you’ve spent money on film and scans and realize the camera needs repair.

That shouldn’t be how you start shooting film.

So this shop exists to fix that.

I source cameras carefully, service them, test them, and make sure they’re ready to shoot before they ever leave. No guessing, no projects—just load film and go.

This isn’t just about selling cameras.
It’s about keeping the practice alive.

Film asks you to slow down, pay attention, and trust the process. Whether it’s your first roll or your hundredth, you should start with something that works.

Because the magic of film should start with light—not frustration.
